Hypothetically

It is 1933. You are in Berlin, Germany. Somehow, you find yourself in a position where you can effortlessly steal Adolf Hitler's wallet. This theft will not effect Hitler's rise to power, the nature of World War II, or the Holocaust. There is no important identification in the wallet, but the act will cost Hitler forty Reichsmarks and completely ruin his evening. You do not need the money. The odds that you will be caught committing this crime are less than 2 percent. Are you ethically obligated to steal Hitler's wallet?

    by the way i didn't write this scenario. i got it from a friend. for the record my response was:

    how do you know if doesnt effect things? maybe you steal his wallet and he blames jews, causes the holocaust and then years later you don't think that's what caused it, so you go back in time and steal his wallet because in the world you already created it seems inconsequencial. it's a time paradox. if future you does that in the past, current you won't know that you did it, until you do it. then again, i'd probably still do it for lulz.

    You're still causing pain on a human, just because Hitler was misguided doesn't mean that he wasn't facing the hardest struggle of his life. And how much of this was to blame on his regime and his meth psychosis? For all you know he could have just been a drugged up frontman with way more than he should have had. He deserved to be stopped, not tortured. Plus, is he really gonna give a fuck about 40 bucks?

    I would not feel obligated because hitler would just print up more fiat reichmarks to cover his loss. But I'd certainly want to do it anyway. :)
