In celebration of reaching two hundred followers I've decided to help them out by posting some useful tips and add-ons to help make following a bunch of blogs easier. I follow a lot of blogs myself and these are some of the things I've tried and what I think of them. Originally I was just going to post an easy recipe for making chloroform, with a nice picture chart, but then I hit 200 followers so maybe I'll do that tomorrow or something.
These will be mostly firefox related since that's what I use for blogger related things. If you use chrome, consider installing FF for the add-ons. There's nothing wrong with using a separate browser just for blogs. Personally I like FF for everything.
I've stopped using Morning Coffee, in favour of just adding bookmark folders broken down into groups of 75 blogs each. I rightclick on a folder and go to 'open all in tabs' to work through that group before moving on. This tip also works in chrome. Now on to the add-ons.
First up we have VertTabbar. Instead of one long row of tabs this allows you to put them in a column, arranged vertically, which sort of reminds me of the windows explorer interface and I like that. Supports resizing, and left or right side of the screen. It's great for widescreens and has more compatibility than similar add-ons like Vertigo.
Next up, I find it's nice to keep organized by colouring and/or numbering tabs. ColorfulTabs takes care of colouring them different pastel colours, and NumExt is what I use to number them. Numext also gives you some neat new hotkeys for quickly switching tabs. I like being able to see how many I have left to go through at a glance.
If you regularly open 100+ tabs at once like I do you may benefit from Load Tabs Progressively which makes your tabs load in smaller batches, instead of trying to load them all at the same time. No screenshot for this one; sorry, but I'm not making an animated gif to show what this does.
It's beyond the scope of this post to review all the add-ons I use but if you like this post and want some more useful ones let me know and I'll write another post on it sometime. I hope somebody finds this helpful.
I actually use VertTabbar

ReplyDeleteOh and thanks again to all my readers. You guys are great and I'll be following.
ReplyDeletewow, fast response brosterone, you beat me and i started thinking of my comment as soon as i posted. lol.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I meant to include some info on adding a paypal donation button(like the one over there →) and stumbleupon button(see my post footer ↑). That's what I get for posting so late when I should be asleep. If anybody cares let me know & I'll do another update tomorrow night & go into how/why to add those to your blog.
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm following more blogs and getting more followers I need to start looking into these things.
