I got a new phone today, a Samsung Epic. First thing I did was root it and install custom firmware and so far it's working out great.
I downloaded a bunch of cool free apps already. This phone can do so much more than any device I've ever used and I'm loving it. So for today's post I'm just going to tell you about some of the cool apps I've found, and I'd like to ask any of my readers who have an android phone what their favorite apps are.
Here's what I've got so far:
Barcode Scanner
Adobe Reader
Where(a location based directory app)
Google Goggles, take a pic of any item and do a google search for info on it
Wardive, for recording wifi data
Meebo IM client
Angry Birds, game
Labyrinth Lite, game
Google Skymap, point your phone at the sky and get info about constellations and stars you can see
Instant Heart Rate, uses the camera to clock your pulse
Instant Rimshot widget for the funny sound effect noise
Power control widget
Lookout, antivirus/security suite
ringdroid, for cropping mp3s into ringtones
and the firmware i'm using is called epic experience
Is the anything you recommend that I don't have? Any tips tricks or tweaks you know about? I'll take any advice I can get.
Thanks :)
Samsung Epic?..
ReplyDeleteGood super hero name
Wow those are pretty cool. Making your own ringtones on the fly sounds like a feature I wish I had on my phone.
ReplyDelete@Dmitri, yeah it does sound like a superhero name, but this phone lives up to it.
ReplyDeletemy cousin has one, he says its great. i dont have one tho, YET!
ReplyDeletehaha =)
@D.B. you should get one. it'd be good for your phone pranks blog. theres an app that lets you disguise caller id, change your voice, all sorts of crazy stuff. i havent tried that yet b/c it's not free though.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this Google Goggles, it's nice.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about getting a new phone recently. Might look into this.
ReplyDeleteholy shit google goggles? that sounds so ridiculous. I want a new-gen phone now :|
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool phone bro!
ReplyDeleteit ain't a phone until you have angry birds on it.
ReplyDeleteI still don't understand all the hype about Angry Birds.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated to post -- someone looking over my shoulder just did a double take over something I totally hadn't noticed: they mistook xanonymousex.blogspot.com for anonymous-sex.blogspot.com! My mate's mind is in the gutter, but regardless you might want to consider changing subdomains at some point...
ReplyDelete@meghan & obi-wan,
ReplyDeleteyeah everybody keeps recommending that, so i got it now. it's not bad but i agree that it gets too much hype.
@mike yang,
yeah when i created this site that popped into my head too, but now i think it'd screw up too many people's bookmarks if i change it.
i see now most of people have Samsung.nice mobile
ReplyDeleteits a great phone man. I have it and i love it
ReplyDeleteMy brother has one and it really is epic :) Good buy!
ReplyDeletewhats the purpose of barcode scanner?
ReplyDelete@Rose,
ReplyDeletebarcode scanner lets me take pictures of QR codes to download apps and things like that.
Alpine Quest is a good app if you like the outdoors, lets you download maps to use with the GPS.
ReplyDeleteMy bro got the same phone. He's very satisfied with it. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteFollowing and supporting!

Great, enjoy your new Android!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I totally want that rim-shot app. Sounds so useful with corny jokes around. Also...how does the pulse taking work with a camera?
ReplyDelete@con queso,
ReplyDeleteyou press your finger against the camera lens and the flash lights up your finger so the camera can see your blood flow, which the app analyzes and uses to detect pulse rate.
this is so cool, beats the crap outta my phone
ReplyDeletelooks a pretty nice phone, i'm still fixed on my iPhone, though.
ReplyDeleteBlog looking goud anonymouse!
ReplyDeleteBeen a long time since i checked out.
