Want to make your blog load faster? Want to help your followers who have a slow connection or are opening up 50 blogs at once? A couple people have asked me how to make a blog display an intro paragraph with a link to read the full post, and I think it's a great idea for a tutorial. It's also really easy. Click to read how.
When you're writing you're post you can put the cursor wherever you want the link to appear after, and then simply click the button that looks like a torn paper. When you hover your mouse over it you'll see: "Insert Jump Break". After you click it, a grey line will appear and you can drag the grey line to move it up or down if you like. Anything above the line will display on your main page, and anything below it will display after the viewer clicks the link. See picture for reference:
Now since that seems a little too short, I'll show you how to customize the link text as well. Since I couldn't think of anything too creative I just made mine a common intentional misspelling. Start out by going to the Design tab and clicking Edit, in the Posts section.
In the popup window, simply change the setting for "Post page link text" to whatever text you'd like. Save your changes and enjoy your faster load times with a more custom look.
Thats all for today. Pretty easy, and in my opinion it's a cool feature that I wish I'd found sooner. Hopefully a few of you will get some use out of this now that you know about it. As always, thanks for following. See you next time.
These are great for sites with long posts, excellent guide!

Huh. For some reason, I assumed blogger did this automatically...
ReplyDeleteit would be kind of cool if they did it automatically so everybody's blogs would probably load a bit faster, but it's nice doing it yourself so you can choose where you want to put the jump-break.
