I spent 12 hours with this view today:
When on a long trip, like moving from texas to florida, I get behind trucks and stay there. Better aerodynamics = better gas mileage. So I spent the first 12 hour part of the trip looking at the back of a truck. I considered doing the whole 24 hour drive all at once, but then my contacts started bothering me and I decided to stop for the night. Got another 12-14hours of driving tomorrow...fun...
It wasn't all bad though...Bayou des Glaises during the gloaming: absolutely beautiful, but due to the low light I didn't try to capture a pic for you guys. Sorry.
Oh and btw, my average gas mileage so far: 36MPG (the car I rented keeps track)
ReplyDeleteSo, yes getting in the airstream behind a truck does help, as demonstrated by getting such decent mileage in a rental car loaded with all my belongings.
that MPG is MUCH better than my car... lol.
ReplyDeletei heard that 60% of your Gas goes with air resistance
ReplyDeleteIt's better than my car too but less than I get on my motorcycle. But I dont recall how good my mileage is on my car when I do it all highway miles, in the slipstream from a big truck.
ReplyDeleteThat's genius. :P
ReplyDelete24 hour drive would be killer. Staying up for 24 hours when you can be occupied with something is much easier. Good choice to stop. Enjoy the mix tomorrow :)

ReplyDeleteLOL! Sucks :S
ReplyDeleteugh boooring :)
ReplyDeleteIn my country if you are caught using one of your hands to make a phone call or smoke a cigarette then they can take your license of you.
ReplyDeleteFuck knows what they'd do if they caught you taking photographs :P
Glad you didn't do the 24 hour drive in one, that's really taking a risk. Anyway, good luck with the last leg.
ReplyDeleteGotta pass those trucks. hate being stuck behind them.
ReplyDeleteYou should have passed him by! I hate driving behind trucks man.
ReplyDeleteI think I might try that. lol Geez my Lexus gets 20mpg on a good day! (dosnt help the fact that I drive like a speed demon lol)
ReplyDeleteEh not so great weather hey? Aha just becareful slipstreaming, could be dangerous sometimes, especially in wet road conditions d;
ReplyDeletethat's so long...
ReplyDeleteThat sucks bad enough driving but behind a truck..
ReplyDeletewonder whats in it
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty genius, but means you have to go slow behind a truck :/
ReplyDeleteI always go for the 24 hour drive, save money and time. And its always a good story.
ReplyDeleteNice idea, especially for long hauls...I don't think I could manage even 12 hours behind the wheel though...
ReplyDeletenice design man!:)
ReplyDeleteI hate driving, and 13 hours sounds like hell.
ReplyDeletethis the pic right before you jacked a shipment?
ReplyDeleteJust recently went to cleveland, about a 6 hour drive from where I was. I do the same thing, find a good truck and cruise behind all the way there. have fun!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you're too far to be in the airstream... Wouldn't it end around 20-30 feet behind the truck?
ReplyDeleteThen again, fluid mechanics wasn't exactly my strong suit.
i feel for you. been on the road for like 7hours yesterday and my ass was hurting like hell. iam not used to sitting this long :/(
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteDamn that is a long drive. Glad its all been safe so far.
ReplyDeleteit helps a lot!
ReplyDeleteif i use the car, i always try to do this
Draw a imaginary door on back of truck..
ReplyDeleteDrive safe
hope youre getting paid well
ReplyDeleteSounds exciting.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to follow a tractor trailer too closely because of the rocks they can throw up, even with the mudflaps. I guess you don't have to worry about that with a rental, though.
ReplyDeleteEughh I hate long drives, especially stuck behind the arse of a truck.
ReplyDeleteOuch, rough day
ReplyDeleteOh shitty, must have been booring like hell, lol
